Stacie (over at her photoblog located here: http://www.staciecmorris.com/wordpress2) was eagle eyed enough to catch Ben on LOST using a D100 camera. Don’t worry, this is not a spoiler. She mentions that this is a sponsorship opportunity gone wrong, well, I haven’t watched since the first episode of this season so who knows if the D100 during that timeframe is new or old technology. I’ll catch up to this season of LOST one of these weekends.
Either way, I risked my sanity by skimming through S04E09 to get a screen capture. And here it is. Ooooh Pretty. Well, I’m a Canon guy, but kudos anyway to the Lost producers to leave the D100 markings on the camera when they clearly removed the ‘Nikon’ logo.
Nikon D100 specs (thanks to Wikipedia)
Released in February 2002 the D100 was a 6mp camera priced at under $2k. They continued to produce the D100 until 2005 when the D200 hit the market.
So, does Ben know what he is doing? We need someone with a D100 to figure out if he’s shooting in a professional mode or just in P.

I think that Ben is behind the times. If the plane crashed in 2004 (On September 22, 2004, flight 815 departed from Kingsford Smith International Airport). I was also interested in the lens – that definitely isn’t a kit lens.
I think it’s a good choice, because it’s a camera that was on the market for a little over a year, and somewhat replaced by the d70 at the time. So it would be a capable piece of equipment, and probably expensive none the less in iraq (or purchased in fiji perhaps). The lens looks like a nikon 70-200 f/2.8.
