Meet John

I am a full time, classically trained professional photographer serving Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware and the entire East Coast of the United States. With over 20 years of experience in film, digital and alternative process photography I'm ready to assist with your photographic needs. I pride myself on my workshops, classes and demonstrations custom tailored for your location and/or event.

Nothing brings me more joy than the thought of my work being loved and admired for generations. Photographs, prints and plates of people, places or things - they all carry the same excitement. When I'm behind the camera, in the darkroom, in the lab, or speaking to a group on photography I feel in place with where I'm supposed to be. 

That wasn't always the case. For over twenty years I had a lucrative career in Information Technologies and while I loved everything technical about it, the end result was very unfulfilling work. Work that made absolutely no difference to anyone's life in the long run.

Thankfully, there's enough technology in photography. Easily with digital photography, the logistics of on-site prints or live streaming, click-to-print color management, design and many more to keep my interest. Historic photography is also a great challenge. Science, chemistry, physics are all a must when working with, demonstrating and teaching chemical photographic processes.

At the end of the day, it'll all be worth it if in the future someone holds a plate, digital print or darkroom enlargement I made of their grandparents and it brings them happiness, a collection I've helped restore and protect lasts another generation or someone continues working in an alternative process they learned in one of our workshops after I'm gone.
