Dallmeyer Triple Acromatic Lens (1863)

Our beautiful 1863 Dallmeyer lens is the one of the favorites when we bring it out for presentations. It still has it's original leather cap and the serial number can be traced back to it's sale on September 20th, 1863.

John Henry Dallmeyer was born on September 6th, 1830 in the Province of Westphalia, Kingdom of Prussia. After the optician he worked for in London passed, he started his own business in 1860. Moving more from optical lenses for astronomical work to photographic lenses, Dallmeyer would introduce many improvements to his lenses.

While beautiful brass Dallmeyer lenses are no longer made, they are highly prized lenses and collected where some people have even created mounts to use them on digital cameras without damaging the lens.
